We hope our Monday stories didn’t freak you out too much, because we have more where that came from. Today there’s just one story, and it’s a doozy. Friday, we’re publishing this year’s last installment, so if you’re DYING to tell us your ghouliest spook, speak now (by messaging us on Instagram @heraldeditorinchief) or forever hold your peace.

GHOST PATROL

“During the summer of 2008 I was working the 7 p.m.-7 a.m. weekend shift for campus security. Campus is already very quiet during the summer, but this had been the final week of EFY so it gave more reason for staff to avoid campus.

It was about 10 p.m. on Saturday night. I had locked up campus and turned out all the lights. I had just finished my walk through Main Hall from the top floor to the bottom. I had checked all the exterior and interior doors to confirm they were locked. So I sat down at the desk in the Main Hall lobby reading a book with only a small table lamp on for light when I began hearing noises.

At first it was just the opening and closing of a door. I thought it was totally explainable because we were in an old building, I looked down the hallway to the ballroom and said ‘Hello?’ I heard shuffling and clattering, followed by loud whines, screeches, and a crash. The noise was echoing down the hallway from the ballroom.

I took a step back. The beam of the flashlight I held in my hand seemed to grow dimmer by the second. I had heard all the stories about campus being haunted but I didn’t want to believe it. I took a few steps forward toward the double doors into the ballroom and they appeared to be moving, like there was something gently pushing on them from inside the ballroom.

Maybe it was because I had been watching a lot of ‘Ghost Hunters’ at the time, but I got nervous, turned around, and walked out of the front doors of Main Hall.

Now outside of the building, Main Hall looked menacing and I expected to see ghostly faces pressed against the windows as I scanned the exterior of the building. I saw nothing but continued to hear noises.

Definitely a scary moment...”
